About Me

My name is Ayanda, and wildlife photography is my way of reconnecting with something that has always been part of me.

I grew up close to Kruger National Park in South Africa. For much of my childhood, the incredible wildlife and landscapes of the Lowveld were simply part of the environment around me. The sounds of nature, the vast open spaces, the wildlife and the feeling of being surrounded by something so much bigger than ourselves were things I never really stopped to appreciate.

When something is always there, you don't necessarily realise how extraordinary it is.

It was only after I left South Africa that I began to see it differently. I started meeting people who dreamed of visiting Kruger, people who would travel thousands of kilometres, cross continents and spend thousands of euros just to experience the place I had grown up so close to.

Their dream destination had been my backyard.

And it took leaving home for me to truly understand its value.

That realisation changed the way I look at wildlife and nature. It made me appreciate not only the animals themselves, but the incredible systems and environments they belong to.

There is something incredibly humbling about standing in front of a giraffe, an elephant, a lion or any other large animal and realising how small we actually are. As humans, we can spend so much of our lives caught up in deadlines, responsibilities, worries and the endless noise of everyday life. Yet nature continues around us, largely indifferent to all of it.

Animals don't have our endless hustle and headache. They simply exist within the world around them, moving, feeding, resting, raising their young and surviving as they have done for generations.

Wildlife photography gives me a chance to slow down and observe that world.

Every photograph is more than just an image of an animal. It is a moment of connection with something much older, larger and more fundamental than ourselves.

Sometimes it takes distance to see the value of what we have.

For me, photography is a way of appreciating those things I once took for granted, and hopefully giving others a glimpse of the incredible world that surrounds us.
